This season, our team is composed of approximately 80 paddlers, on three mixed crews and two gendered crews. Our club's coaches consist of our university's alumni or postgraduate students who have been in the sport of dragon boat for several years.
We are entirely a student run initiative, providing an opportunity for students from across the university to pursue physical fitness and to develop teamwork skills outside of a normal school environment. We pride ourselves in the community that we build every year of dragon boat paddlers, many of whom become lifelong friends and continue to paddle, both on the Iron Dragons and on premier teams post-graduation, for many years.
For the past several years, our top crews have become more and more competitive. From our first Canadian Dragonboat Championships appearance in 2014, the Iron Dragons have gone on to become three-time national University division champions in Canada (2015-2017). Now, the club will be attending our first ever international dragon boat competition, and are working hard to become world University champions this July.
